Oberwiesenthal - Most popular place for alpine skiing
For 100 years, the Ore Mountains have been a popular winter sports area with good snow conditions. In 28 places from Altenberg to Sosa, the guests have the license to have winter fun from December to March. About 70 ski runs, more than 60 draglifts, around 1.000 kilometres of prepared cross-country skiing trails as well as several toboggan runs and ice-skating rinks are at your disposal. Especially Oberwiesenthal, the highest town in Germany, is a stronghold for the friends of swift downhill runs. With a FIS-approved slalom slope on the Fichtelberg, the city is the alpine centre in the region of the Ore Mountains. Thanks to the biggest snow-making equipment in the New German States, winter sports on the „home mountain" is almost always possible from Christmastime until Easter.
