Winter Holidays in Saxony

Helicopter skiing in Canada, snowshoeing in Scandinavia, glacier climbing in Switzerland - but winter holidays in Saxony?! Yes, indeed! The Saxon winter sports regions offer the best conditions: snow-sure places, manifold landscapes, miles and miles of cross-country skiing trails, an astonishing number of ski-runs, great excursion destinations

Oberwiesenthal - Most popular place for alpine skiing

For 100 years, the Ore Mountains have been a popular winter sports area with good snow conditions. In 28 places from Altenberg to Sosa, the guests have the license to have winter fun from December to March. About 70 ski runs, more than 60 draglifts, around 1.000 kilometres of prepared cross-country skiing trails as well as several toboggan runs and ice-skating rinks are at your disposal. Especially Oberwiesenthal, the highest town in Germany, is a stronghold for the friends of swift downhill runs. With a FIS-approved slalom slope on the Fichtelberg, the city is the alpine centre in the region of the Ore Mountains. Thanks to the biggest snow-making equipment in the New German States, winter sports on the „home mountain" is almost always possible from Christmastime until Easter.

Kammloipe - most snow-sure cross-country skiing trail

The 36-kilometre-long Kammloipe, one of Germany's most snow-sure cross-country skiing trails, is ideal for hiking through the nature park Ore Mountains/Vogtland. Many consider the trail to be the most attractive track. It leads from Schöneck in the Vogtland to Johanngeorgenstadt in the Ore Mountains, and marked connecting trails allow skiing trips to Bohemia. Whoever starts the trail without baggage and further in direction of Altenberg in the Eastern Ore Mountains, can book the „KAMMtour" with six or eight stages.

World Cups on the bob run Altenberg

In Altenberg lies the luge and bob run, one of the biggest in the world, an attraction during wintertime. There, one can follow the international competitions as a spectator or demonstrate courage during a guest bobsleigh run going 1.000 metres downhill. In addition, skiers find 60 kilometres of prepared cross-country skiing trails, extremely well improved ski runs and ski lifts in this snow-sure region. In the district Rehefeld, skijoring and snowmobile riding are possible.

Winter romance in the Zittau Mountains and the Elbe Sandstone Mountains

The Zittau Mountains and the Upper Lusatian Highlands recommend themselves with 50 kilometres of prepared cross-country skiing trails and further ski trails for thrilling snow adventures. In Waltersdorf, deep in the Zittau Mountains, downhillers can enjoy themselves. Additionally, ice rinks, toboggan slopes and runs invite to happy hours in the snow. Several riding stables offer sleigh rides. Sandstones cloaked in snow create a wonderful backdrop for winter holidays in Saxon Switzerland.
