With its monasteries, churches and pilgrimage routes, Saxony offers a wide range of places that are all about contemplation, inner peace and self-reflection – for visitors to recharge their batteries.

Calm and contemplation: at peace with the world

„It takes calm to discover the power that lies within us.”

Find yourself on a Saxon pilgrimage route

For centuries, pilgrimages provided a chance for pious believers to right wrongs before God. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem or the tomb of the Apostle James in Santiago de Compostela in Spain were the most important and prestigious destinations. Although ecclesiastical influence on modern life is waning, going on a pilgrimage has been experiencing a renaissance in recent years, including on the numerous Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James) routes.

Such contemplative walking tours come with little comfort and a lot of time spend in the company of oneself, which is something many people consciously choose to take time out from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Take a look at the most beautiful Saxon legs of well-known pilgrimage routes and be inspired to explore further…
