3 p.m.

Arrival in one of the comfortable hotels in the historic town centre. A good night’s sleep is guaranteed!



4 p.m.

Stop by the TouristService on the market square for information and tips about guided city tours, events or hiking in the area.



4.15 p.m.

Take some to try Eierschägge, a typical Saxon cake, with a good cup of coffee: The historic Old Town is full of lovely cafés, such as “Ilses Kaffeestube” in the Peter-Ullrich-Haus on the market square, one of the oldest houses in Saxony.



5 p.m.

Discover Pirna on a guided city tour that not only introduces you to the lovingly restored medieval town centre, small winding alleys, charming backyards and elaborately decorated houses but also includes some culinary highlights.

7.30 p.m.

Head to the “Geibeltbad”, featuring an indoor and outdoor pool, for a relaxing evening. Sauna, steam room, massages or hammam – it’s all there. Plus a bistro on site for a (healthy) bite to eat: Try the salad and juice bar!

Take a swim!



10 a.m.

Start the day with a bit of shopping in the historic town centre and make some time for a visit to the town museum in between browsing independent shops and pretty boutiques.

12 noon

Are you hungry? Pirna offers something for every taste, from regional to international cuisine. Special tip: “Zum Gießer“ brewhouse.

Enjoy your meal!


2 p.m. Time to explore Saxon Switzerland, the German section of the Elbe Sandstone Mountain range: Simply get on the S-Bahn for a short ride to  Rathen. From there, walk up to the world-famous Bastei, a rock formation towering above the Elbe river, and enjoy breathtaking views across this region’s unique rocky landscape.

5.15 p.m.

Take one of the historic paddle steamers of the “Sächsische Dampfschiffahrtsgesellschaft” (Saxon Paddle Steamer Company) back to Pirna. A great way to travel and to enjoy the wildly romantic Elbe valley!

6.30 p.m.

From cosy pub to fancy restaurant: Pirna’s gastronomical offers cover the whole range. Head to the Old Town for quaint taverns, in summer also with charming beer gardens.



8 p.m.

Pirna provides a stage for anything from comedy to plays or concerts and including cabaret. Venues include “Kleinkunstbühne Q24”, “Richard-Wagner-Stätten Graupa” or the “Tom Pauls Theater Pirna”.




10 a.m.

Wagner buff? Then don’t miss the multimedia Wagner exhibition in the “Richard-Wagner-Stätten Graupa” to learn more about the composer’s stay Graupa and how he revolutionised opera.

The walk up Sonnenstein fortress above Pirna will be rewarded with wonderful views across town. Should you visit between May and September, take a look at the sculptures displayed in the fortress as part of the yearly “Pirna Sculpture Summer”.
