In the house where Katharina Luther found her death, a museum commemorates Martin Luther’s wife.
In the autumn of 1552, Martin Luther’s widow Katharina fled Wittenberg because of the plague. Just outside Torgau she had an accident, breaking her pelvis. Three weeks later she died in a house in the center of Torgau. This, her last residence, now houses the Katharina Luther Museum, which commemorates Mrs. Luther using contemporary pictures and objects of everyday life. She is buried in St Mary’s Church, Torgau, where her epitaph can also be seen.
