Coffee Saxons and Gold Crowns

In volume 20 of the great German Dictionary, there is the word “Kaffeesachse”, “Coffee Saxon”, which does not refer to the per capita coffee consumption of the Saxons but to the preference of the Saxons for pleasures of all kinds and their historical pioneering role in spreading the coffee culture in Europe. The highest beer consumption in Germany is to be found in Saxony, where about 200 litres are drunk per capita per year. In addition, Saxony has one of the smallest and northernmost wine-growing regions in Germany. Saxony is also well known for the distillery in Wilthen, with such products as “Goldkrone” (“gold crown”).Visiting those who look back on a long tradition and keep their doors open and also may do this despite strict hygiene regulations, is always worthwhile.
