Starting point of the tour
The scenic Vogtland region will delight with its gentle landscape.
This region is called “Musikwinkel“ (corner of music) because of its tradition of instrument making which goes back more than 300 years. You can watch the masters at work in many a workhop, big and small.
The wood for the instrument is sourced in the local forests which are plenty here. Densely wooded forests, surrounded by some characteristic mountain slopes, make for an impressive driving experience. The sparsely populated area features peaceful roads, far away from the daily grind. The “Sachsengrund“ valley is wildly romantic, there are wide stretches around the “Pöhl“ dam and curves around Klingenthal. À propos Klingenthal:
The solitude of the forests is followed by another highlight of this route with “Göltzschtalbrücke“ as the world’s largest brick-built bridge. Europe’s most modern ski jump in Klingenthal’s Vogtlandarena is equally impressive. The view from the top is dizzying, yet beautiful. Other sights along the way are the musical instruments museum in Markneukirchen, the Vogtland open-air museum in Landwüst or the dragon’s cave in Syrau.
