Short description

The cycle route passes nine of the 19 new lakes and allows visitors to experience the multifaceted landscape and structural change of the former open-cast mining landscape.

Description

Nine lakes right on the doorstep and Leipzig's city park even provides a natural, car-free route towards them: The Leipziger Neuseenland is a fascinating landscape. Open-cast lignite mining, which was originally associated with destruction, has now provided an extraordinarily diverse leisure and recreation area. Lying in the sand or white-water rafting in the canoe park, cooling off in the crystal-clear water or standing on your head in the roller coaster of the Belantis amusement park: Between Lake Cospuden and Lake Zwenkau, there are many destinations along the way, and of course, there is also culture: Borna's historic old town with the converted Emmaus Church, the ancient Wiprechtsburg and the baroque Wiederau Castle are small discoveries in a rural idyll.

Directions

The Neuseenland bike route is signposted and can be started at various points, as it is a circular route.

Trail conditions: The route, with only a few elevation changes, leads mostly along bike paths, field and forest paths. Please note that parts of the trail may be covered with gravel and crushed stone.

Hints:

  • Shore path Haselbacher See: sections with scree/gravel.
  • Departure Speicher Borna: ramp with steps
