180 kilometres of bliss, this route is one of the most popular cycle tracks in Germany.

Description

The Elbe Cycle Route is a star among Germany’s cycle tracks, and not surprisingly so considering the wealth and variety of culture and nature to be discovered along the Elbe embankment. The Saxon leg of the route is particularly attractive with the dramatic rock formations of Saxon Switzerland in the very east, the mellow hills around Meißen once you’ve passed Dresden and finally in the northwest Torgau, Germany’s best preserved Renaissance town, also closely connected to Luther and the Reformation. In between unspoilt nature alternates with terrassed vineyards and peaceful hamlets such as Altkötzschenbroda or the picturesque old towns of Meißen and Pirna as further highlights. There is plenty of accommodation along the route including spa hotels and self-catering appartments. Likewise, the culinary choice will delight hungry cyclists who shouldn’t miss the many traditional inns or, if so inclined, Michelin star restaurants, too. Starting in Radebeul, the route also leads past many traditional wine taverns. Last but not least, Dresden’s outstanding cultural offers are the icing on the cake of this cycle route. The choice is yours: Visit the art collections at Dresden Royal Palace or the Zwinger palace, catch a view of the Semperoper or enjoy an open-ar film as they are being screened each summer on the Elbe embankment.
