It's been more than 100 years ago that embroidery companies from Plauen received the Grand Prix for their patterns during the world exhibition in Paris. Due to historic events as the 1st world war, the world economic crisis, the destruction of large parts of Plauen during the 2nd world war, the socialization in the 50s but also the most successful reprivatisation in the early 90s, Plauen and the Vogtland present themselves as location of many successful embroidery companies. Additionally, the region provides an excellent textile infrastructure (designers, suppliers, textile processors, fitters, research and educational institutions). Traditions together with trend-setting developments generate massive long-distance effects on the most diverse levels - economy - art and culture - tourism. Presently, there are still 37 producing embroidery companies in the Vogtland.
