Icon of the modern age

Kaßberg is the most densely populated district of Chemnitz and one of the largest Wilhelminian and Art Nouveau districts in all of Germany. Most of the buildings that were built between 1855 and 1930 have been preserved and show elements of Art Nouveau and Historicism. Approximately 600 bourgeois residential buildings, churches, schools and historic administration buildings as well as medieval beer cellars and several bridges have been placed under preservation order and are constantly renovated. The residential houses at 48-52 Barbarossastraße street with Majolika decoration, the residential buildings at 19 Kochstraße street, 16 Ulmenstraße street and 28 Eulitzstraße street are especially remarkable.
