The WDR Symphony Orchestra presents itself with its new chief conductor Cristian Măcelaru for the first time in Dresden; starting in the 2019/20 season, he takes over as the music director of the tradition-steeped orchestra. The evening features a program reflecting fascinating sound visions. When Beethoven first performed his Symphony No. 3, it was rejected due to its radical musical ideas. Today, the »Eroica« is considered a key work of the 19th century. During the first part of the concert, Jan Vogler performs the solo part in a very special world premiere: the three movements of this truly world-encompassing Cello Concerto were commissioned from three composers representing three different continents – the American Nico Muhly, the German Sven Helbig and the Chinese Zhou Long – who lend the universal language of music their individual notes.
