You don't have to be a rider or horse enthusiast to be fascinated by the stallion parade in Moritzburg. What these noble animals show here inspires every single one in the audience. The traditional event took place for the first time in 1924, thanks to the engagement of the equerry Ernst August von der Wense. Approximately 30,000 visitors come to Moritzburg on three weekends in September.
This picturesque place near Dresden is famous for its baroque castle, situated in the paradisiacal landscape of the Moritzburg woods and ponds. In a four-hour programme mighty stallions and well-trained riders in magnificent costumes present historical events with horses, jumping competitions, ridden parade post, the "pushball" game, a kind of horse football, and breakneck "Cossack riding". During the latter, acrobats perform bold tricks, jump out of saddle to the left or right and back up again, while their horses dash along at full gallop. Hold your breath! A murmur goes through the crowd when the stagecoach with a team of 16 horses comes into the arena for the grand finale.
