Special exhibition "The Good Sound - Amalie of Saxony. Princess, Composer, Poet"

20.04.2020 - 04.10.2020

More details of the place of event

Who knows this Saxon princess? Not because of her scandals, but because of her great compositions and poems, Amalie deserves a little more fame. King John's sister remained unmarried and devoted herself entirely to art. As a pupil of Carl Maria von Weber she mastered her craft perfectly and created numerous operas, cantatas and comedies. She herself chose the pseudonym Amalie Heiter for her work. Despite her great success as a writer she lived modestly. She donated the income from her plays to charity. Today hardly anyone knows Amalie and her life's work. On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of her death the exhibition commemorates her and asks: How important was the princess as an artist and how did she live? Her opera "Elvira" will be performed at the Dresden Music Festival in the anniversary year.
