Since 1997 Sabine Kahane-Noll has called the Negev desert in the south of Israel her home. In very different ways and using a variety of artistic techniques - drypoint, etching, chalk, watercolour, oil, acrylic and pastel - she deals artistically with her self-chosen living environment. Kahane-Noll's search for an alternative lifestyle is combined with a deep enthusiasm for the history and cultural tradition of antiquity, especially the Old Testament. Thus the artistic reception of the biblical sites has become a focal point of her work. Alongside this is the effort to grasp the specific conditions of the desert as a natural space that at first glance may seem hostile to life, but is then surprisingly vital and fascinating.
