The MdbK shows, thanks to the support of the Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung together with Sparkasse Leipzig and the Förderverein des Museums der bildenden Künste Leipzig e.V., in 2020/2021 for the first time an institutional single exhibition of the international renowned photo artist Andreas Gursky (*1955) in his birthplace Leipig.
Andreas Gurskys Œuvre, that counts more than 200 works at the moment, visualizes complex constructions of the reality that are always linked with questions of the society. Work, leisure, consumption, big events as well as financial systems are topics of his work for several decades.
His view is realistic, precise and always subjective. His compositions are technical and artistic unique. The works visualize a view full of facettes and associations on our globalized world. His interest for abstract picture forms leads the artist to pictures of wealth and emptiness at the same time.
