A mining custom in the Erzgebirge is the Metten layer. It used to be the last shift driven underground before Christmas and is still celebrated in many towns and villages in the Erzgebirge. It is celebrated with hearty miner's music, bacon fat breads and mulled wine.
Experience a traditional Metten Schicht with musical tunes, mountain bread and warm drinks in the light of over a hundred candles in one of the oldest show mines in Saxony. With warming forge fires cosy hours in a convivial round are guaranteed.
