The snow crunches softly under the soles, the forest smells winterly. Winter hiking is probably one of the most idyllic activities you can do in the cold season. Whether with or without snow, the possibilities are endless to discover nature and landscape in hibernation. So much the better when you are out and about with locals who know the area. On foot or with snowshoes you can walk through the Erzgebirge winter.
From 09 to 17 January 2021 the winter hiking week in the Ore Mountains starts. Nature park and hiking guides accompany circular walks with distances between 185 steps leading up to the Marienberg church tower and 19 kilometres. They tell exciting stories along the way and also always convey a piece of Ore Mountain history or mining tradition. The 44 tours in total are suitable for beginners and advanced hikers as well as for families and lead through towns in the Ore Mountains, through the winterly nature with wide views or end with a cosy stop in traditional inns.
Those who prefer to discover the winter in a quiet and individual way will find numerous tours for hiking or cross-country skiing in the Erzgebirge. For this the ERZAppAktiv is an ideal mobile companion. It is available as a premium version for iOS and Android.
With so much fresh air, it becomes cosy inside. The inns and country inns spoil you with regional delicacies, mulled wine and tea, that is HEIMATGENUSS ERZGEBIRGE (HOME PLEASURE ORE MOUNTAINS).
And for those who need even more warmth, go for a sweat in one of the many saunas and thermal baths in the region, here relaxation is the order of the day. Relaxation for body and soul awaits guests in the radon and brine containing water of the "ACTINON" health spa in Bad Schlema, in the thermal baths of Wiesenbad and the spa town of Warmbad or in the caterpillar nest in Altenberg. The Eibenstock bathing gardens promise a sauna trip around the world. A variety of themed infusions provide a lot of variety during a sauna day.
