In 2015 St. Nicholai's Church, starting point of the peaceful revolution, celebrates its 850 years of existence. In 1539 the first official Protestant prayer was held here in Leipzig, thus establishing the Reformation in the St. Nicholas church. With the inauguration of Johann Sebastian Bach as musical director of Leipzig, since 1723, many of his works at St. Nicholas Church found the first performance. In 1989 St Nicholas made the crucial starting point of the peaceful revolution that changed Europe. These events have moved people and are abiding testimony of faith. In the festival week from 17 to 24 May 2015 850 years of history are prominent.
