The International Messiaen Days Görlitz-Zgorzelec remind us of one of the most unusual premieres of the twentieth century. The French composer Olivier Messiaen gave the world premiere of his "Quatuor pour la fin du temps" ("Quartet for the End of Time") on 15 January 1941 with three fellow prisoners of the Stalag VIII A prisoner of war camp in Görlitz. The chamber music piece is today considered a musical masterpiece of the 20th century. The German association "Meetingpoint Music Messiaen e.V." and the Polish foundation "Remembrance, Education, Culture" have had the eight-movement work for violin, violoncello, clarinet and piano performed for 12 years now at the historical location of the premiere in the now Polish part of the European city of Görlitz/Zgorzelec.
The 5th International Messiaen-Days Görlitz-Zgorzelec are under the leitmotif "Fear and Hope" and will take place from 29.04. to 02.05.2021 in the European City of Görlitz/Zgorzelec.
