This year the Dresden Kupferstich-Kabinett is celebrating its 300th anniversary as the oldest public special collection of art on paper in the German-speaking world: drawings, copperplate engravings and other prints have been collected here since 1720, and photographs since 1898. With over 500,000 works from the Middle Ages to the present day, it also occupies a prominent position within the Dresden State Art Collections (SKD).
With the title and theme "300 Years of Collecting in the Present", the Kupferstich-Kabinett invites visitors on a journey of discovery through the centuries in its anniversary year. In the central exhibition, works of art from all epochs of its holdings are shown from the perspective of their acquisition history.
The central anniversary exhibition with a total of about 160 works will open on April 25, 2020 with a large family celebration.
