Since 2015, the Nativity Trail Erzgebirge invites you to visit the numerous Christmas mountains and nativity scenes in the Saxon Ore Mountains under the slogan "Come to the Nativity". This year, due to the Corona pandemic, only a "virtual" visit is possible at most stations during the Advent and Christmas season.
The special digital exhibition on Christmas cots in Central Europe invites you to discover the diversity of European Christmas cots. For example, visitors can admire Bohemian cots from the Czech Republic and Austria as well as nativity figures from the Ore Mountains.
The biblical Christmas story tells the birth of Jesus Christ. The Son of God was born in a stable in Bethlehem, wrapped in nappies and placed in a manger. This story continues to fascinate people today. This fascination is also expressed in the Christmas cots, which are part of the Christmas tradition and the folk art closely associated with it.
Some of the nativity scenes are more than 100 years old. They differ in size, the materials used and their style. Each of these cots tells the biblical story from the perspective of the builder. And behind many cots there is also a story of its own.
