Historic old town in a blaze of lights, mulled wine "to go" and pop-up stalls invite you to go Christmas shopping
A magical pre-Christmas period is said to be in Freiberg. At the "Christmas Magic in the Silver Town", the historic old town will shine in a blaze of light - with Christmas trees, the original mining pyramid and typical Christmas lighting from the Erzgebirge. Candle arches as well as angels and miners will greet you from many windows. Santa Claus will stroll through the alleys and new offers will invite you to "local Christmas shopping by far". For the first time, the classic assortment of inner-city traders will be supplemented by pop-up stands of the Christmas market traders, who will "pop up" for a limited period at unusual locations. Around 30 stands with traditional products, such as Erzgebirge wood art, sweets, handicrafts, incense candles and much more, invite visitors to stroll and browse in the pedestrian zones.
Further activities could enrich the "Christmas magic" in the old town lanes from 1 December. Performances by brass ensembles, the ice rink in the castle, tours with the Silver City Railway, adventure city tours as well as on-site beverage and food stands are planned. Until then, the traders will be offering pre-Christmas delicacies to take away. Both the 4th Saxon State Exhibition at the venue "Rich Colliery" from December to the end of the year and the accompanying special exhibition in the Town and Mining Museum until 28 February 2021 invite you to visit.
Despite these alternative offers, the protection of all people is still the top priority. The city of Freiberg asks all Freiberg residents and guests to continue to adhere to the Corona Protection Ordinance.
