Christmas at the theater. Chemnitz fairytale performances since 1862

08.12.2019 - 26.01.2020
More details of the place of event

Christmas themes traditionally accompany the turn of the year in the Schloßbergmuseum Chemnitz. This year, photographs, posters, playbills, costumes and stage designs from the Christmas productions at the Chemnitz theatres bring a magical stage world to life. As early as the 19th century, the Christmas fairytale was the first encounter with opera and drama for many people - often followed by a lifelong bond. The triggers for this were not only the joy of playing, the love of music or the ballet art of the ensemble members, but also the opulent, colourful stage sets, costumes and imaginative puppets for the most diverse fairy tales.
