Radebeul

Where wine takes centre stage

Welcome to the heart of the Saxon Wine Route

The hilly river landscape around Radebeul is not only home to major wine-growing estates, such as Wackerbarth Castle or Hoflößnitz, but also to a range of small wineries waiting to be discovered by wine lovers who will delight in the lovingly restored winegrowers' houses that gently nestle against the steep vineyards of the Elbe Valley.

Around town, the Saxon Wine Trail offers plenty of options for scenic rambles, or how about a ride on the more than 130-year-old steam-powered Lößnitzgrundbahn railway? Tip: Ring out your day in style with a glass of wine in the historic village green of Altkötzschenbroda.

Our insider tips

  • Saxon Wine Hiking Trail: Covering around 55 miles in the Elbe Valley, this trail connects the towns of Pirna, Dresden, Radebeul, Meissen and Diesbar-Seusslitz. Just like the Saxon Wine Route, it takes in the most beautiful views and leads past the best wine-growing estates in the Saxon wine-growing region.

  • Saxony Wine Museum Hoflößnitz:  The Hoflößnitz vineyard, going back to 1401, used to be a rural retreat for the rulers of the House of Wettin. Apart from an idyllic winery, there is also Saxony's only wine museum to be explored.

  • Narrow-gauge steam railway Lößnitzdackel: From January to December, a narrow-gauge steam railway runs between Radebeul, Moritzburg and Radeburg. Try one of the themed tours!
