Pirna - the city to Saxon Switzerland
Embedded in the landscape of the Dresden Elbe Valley with vineyards, castles and the Elbe Sandstone Massifs of the national park of Saxon Switzerland, the silhouette of Pirna lifts out.
The church steeples of the medieval historic centre greet from afar - it is hard to believe that, between the first mentioning in 1233 in a document from bishop Heinrich of Meißen, the Nordic War around 1706 and the dreadful flood disaster in 2002, this city is looking back on a turbulent past.
