Check in and settle down in one of the pretty hotels or B&Bs in the town centre.



3 p.m.

Stop by the tourist information on the market square to get all the information you need for an unforgettable stay, including tickets for events or hiking maps.



3.30 p.m.

Climb up the 266 steps of the St. Johannis tower and meet a watchman! 60 metres above ground, you’ll have the best views across town and over to the Zittau Mountains.

4 p.m. For a unique religious work of art, visit the “Kirche zum Heiligen Kreuz” museum and marvel at the„Große Zittauer Fastentuche 1472“, a Lenten veil, displayed in the world’s largest museum display case. The veil is 8,20 metres high and 6,80 metres wide and depicts 90 scenes from the Old and New Testament.

9 a.m.

Ouf of town and into the mountains? No problem in Zittau: Get onboard the more than 120-year-old narrow-gauge railway which will take you directly to the foot of the Oybin mountain.

10 a.m.

Upon sight of Oybin Castle and Monastery you can’t help but be impressed. The site inspired Romantic painters such as Caspar David Friedrich and has since been a symbol of Romanticism. It’s worth walking up!

1 p.m.

Next up: lunch and then a lovely hike from the spa town of Oybin to the climatic spa of Jonsdorf, via the Jonsberg mountain or Weisser Stein, a rocky plateau east of Jonsdorf. The picturesque landscape with its bizarre rock formations provides lots of great views and photo material!

3 p.m.

Once in Jonsdorf, head to the “Butterfly House”, featuring tropical plants, about 200 different butterflies, reptiles and snakes. To refresh your tired feet, try the water treading pool in the local park!



5.19 p.m.

Who doesn’t love a steam locomotive: Take the narrow-gauge railway back to Zittau for an enjoyable journey along the Olbersdorf lake.

9.30 a.m. After check-out, make your way to Hirschfelde/Rosenthal. There, in the romantic valley of the Neisse river, you can hire a rubber boat and paddle your way to St. Marienthal Abbey in Ostritz on the border to Poland.



11 a.m.

The baroque abbey, Zisterzienserinnenklosters St. Marienthal, was founded in 1234. Expect splendour, and take some time to explore the impressive spacious complex with its church and chapel.

A transfer will take you back to your starting point Rosenthal. Finish your Zittau weekend with a bite to eat here and have a safe trip home!
