Head to Bärensteinturm tower for great views across town and explore Plauen’s green centre on a walk in the Syratal, a landscape protection area located right in the town centre, and the nearby Stadtpark. Or explore the boutiques, small shops and shopping centres in town.

Round off your first day in a rustic restaurant, enjoy a glass of the local Sternquell beer and look forward to many more things too see in Plauen.

Saturday

Time for a city walk, either with a guide or on your own with an audio guide. There’s also a GPS tour, exploring the role the town played in the autumn of 1989 in the run-up to the Fall of the Wall.

Lunch time! Try Vogtland specialities in a cosy tavern, e.g., the Bambes potato pancake, or green dumplings with Sauerbraten, a special regional type of marinated pot roast. Enjoy!

Plauen and lace are synonymous: Learn all about the “Plauen Lace” in its historical and current versions in Germany’s only lace museum where you can also marvel at the world’s largest lace tablecloth.

Interested to learn more about how this beautiful lace items are manufactured? Then visit the so-called “Schaustickerei”, a museum-cum-factory, where you can watch experts at work and see how a lace tablecloth is produced on historical machines.

Time for a break in one of the many quaint taverns in the Old Town or, weather permitting, in an idyllic beer garden.

What do you fancy – opera, ballet, theatre or a concert? Choose among different venues, such as the “Vogtlandtheater”, “Malzhaus”, “Festhalle” or, in summer, the “Parktheater” for an open-air event and have a wonderful evening!

Kick off your last day with a visit to the “Vogtland Museum” to learn all about the region, its art and culture.

Don’t miss “Galerie e.o. plauen” for insights into the life and work of the brilliant cartoonist Erich Ohser, who grew up in Plauen in the early 20th century and worked under the pseudonym E.O. Plauen. He’s most famous for his delightful “Father and Son” comic strips.
