Kamenz - The City of Lessing
"Let each one to his unbought, impartial love aspire."
The famous ring parable is from "Nathan the wise" and is the work of the writer Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, most prominent son of the city of Kamenz.
The minister's son was born here in 1729. Many places still tell of his childhood in the 18th century.
The guildhall of Kamenz
Whoever comes to visit Lessing in Kamenz, as well encounters rich art and culture from 800 years of city history. Centre piece of the architectural ensemble around the market place is the guildhall, which rises majestically over the red tiled roofs of the city.
Lessing-Museum
A trip back into the times of Gotthold Ephraim Lessing begins at his birthplace in the Lessinggässchen (Lessing alley). His house of birth unfortunately had been destroyed by fire but the citizens of Kamenz erected a representative building in another location in which they set up the Lessing Museum in 1931. It is dedicated to the unusual life, work and influence of the poet of the Enlightenment.
The churches of Kamenz
Special treasures are the altogether eight ornate late gothic carved altars from the 15th/16th century. The unique ensemble of the highest art-historical value has been preserved since the Reformation in three churches of Kamenz, despite the „iconoclasm", and can still be admired.

Tip: Botanical Treasures
Botanical treasures like the parks and gardens on the "Hutberg"
(Hat Mountain) fascinate with great blossom during springtime. The broad range of events, highlighted by the „Forstfest" in late August, illustrate the charm of the city.
