Freiberg - Saxony's silver city

The more than 800-year-old mountain city became rich with silver ore mining.

Over 550 listed buildings and objects in the late medieval city core give impressing evidence of this fact.

Freiberg Cathedral

The Cathedral of St. Marien with its "Goldenen Pforte", first arched porch with figurative illustrations in German-speaking countries, is among the most beautiful sights in Freiberg. Inside, it holds the "Triumphkreuzgruppe" (triumphant cross group), the "Bergmannskanzel" (miner's pulpit) and the much-praised "Tulpenkanzel" (tulip pulpit). The cathedral accommodates the oldest pipe organs by Gottfried Silbermann.
