No matter which way you choose to get to Saxony- it couldn't be easier. The state is connected to the international networks of all important transport carriers. Several Interstates, flight,- train and bus connections are offered by Saxony. In the big cities of Dresden, Leipzig and Chemnitz you'll find a excellent local transport network: buses, trams, s-rails and narrow-gauge railway's are available. Airplane
Saxony hast two international airports- in Dresden and in Leipzig/ Halle. The airport Dresden International is located in the north of the city, 9 kilometers away from downtown Dresden. It is connected to the interstate A13 Dresden-Berlin and A4 Dresden-Frankfurt/Main. The airport Leipzig/ Halle is located right at the interchange Schkeuditzer Kreutz, where the A9 Berlin-Munich and the A14 Magdeburg-Dresden meet. Downtown Leipzig is only 18 kilometers and Halle's downtown area, 23 kilometers away.
A new route completes flight offers: The irish airline Ryanair starts connecting the airports Leipzig/ Halle and London in winter 2011/2012. Ryanair is planning on a daily route between Leipzig/ Halle and London-Stansted, starting in November 2011. It is the first time for passengers from Middle Germany, since 2008, to have a direct flight from Leipzig/ Halle to London. The airport Leipzig/ Halle Ltd. is a subsidiary company of the Middle German Airport Holding. In 2010 more than 2.35 million people and 663.024 tons of airfreight were registered. Train
Saxony is perfectly integrated by the network of the Deutsche Bahn. Is is within easy reach through Intercity-Express,- Inter City,- Euro City,- InterRegio,- and CityNightLine- trains. You can reach your destination in a short time from Dresden, Leipzig and Chemnitz. A great feature are the narrow-gauge railways, which connect the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains), Oberlausitz (Upper Lusatia) and the Sächsische Elbland (Saxon Elbeland). Long-distance coach
Saxony is within easy reach by bus, too. BERLIN LINIEN BUS (BLB) has daily connections between e.g. Munich, Ingolstadt, Nuremberg, Bayreuth to Dresden and Chemnitz. Several times a day you have connections between Dresden and Leipzig to Berlin. Many times a week there are comfortable long-distance coaches e.g. from Stuttgart, Würzburg, Ulm, Bamberg, Regensburg and Passau to Chemnitz and Dresden. Interstate
Thanks to the great transport infrastructure, car drivers get quickly to Saxony via the interstate A4, coming from Frankfurt/ Main, the A9 from Nuremburg, the A13 from Berlin, the A14 from Magdeburg, the A17 from Prague and the A72 coming from Hof.
Transport by boat
The Saxon Steamboat association has the oldest and largest steamboat fleet in the world. Nine historical steam- and two modern saloon-boats start from Dresden and ride up to Riesa in the north of Saxony and to Decin (Czech Republic). Saxon Steamboats.
